Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 17, 2026

This policy explains what information My Family Tree collects, why, and how it's protected. It's written to match exactly what the app actually does — no boilerplate about things this service doesn't do.

Who runs this service

My Family Tree is operated by myfamilytree.club. For any question about this policy or your data, contact us.

What we collect

Account information

When you sign up: your name, email address, and a securely hashed password (we never store your password itself — see Security below).

Family tree data

Whatever you or people you invite choose to enter about family members: names, gender, birth and death dates, phone numbers, email addresses, city, occupation, and photos. This data is entered by users about themselves and their relatives — if you add a relative to a tree, you're responsible for having a reasonable basis to share that information with the family members you give access to it.

Usage data

If you accept analytics cookies (see our Cookie Policy), we collect anonymized usage data via Google Analytics — which pages are visited and how the app is used, not the contents of your family tree.

How we use it

We never sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers.

Who can see your family's data

Only people you explicitly invite to a family tree, at the access level you choose: viewer (read-only), editor (can add/edit), or owner (full control). A person you share a view-only branch link with can see just that branch, without an account. Nothing about your family is ever public unless you generate a share link yourself.

Where your data is stored

Family tree data is stored in a private database on infrastructure operated by myfamilytree.club. Uploaded photos are stored as files on the same infrastructure, not a third-party cloud storage provider.

Third parties we use

WhoWhat forWhat they receive
Google AnalyticsUnderstanding site usage — only if you accept analytics cookiesAnonymized page-visit data. See Google's Privacy Policy.
Google Input ToolsConverting a name into another script when you use that featureOnly the name text being converted, not your account or family data.
Wikimedia CommonsSource of images for the built-in public demo family treesNot applicable — these are public-domain/CC-licensed images, not your data.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your data as long as your account or family tree exists. There's currently no self-service "delete my account" button — contact us to request deletion of your account or any family member's data, and we'll act on it promptly.

Children's information

Family trees commonly include minors — for example, a parent adding their own children. This service isn't directed at children creating their own accounts; a parent or guardian entering their child's information as part of a family tree is expected to have the authority to do so.

Security

Passwords are hashed, never stored in plain text. Your session is kept in an httpOnly cookie sent only over HTTPS, which JavaScript on any page (including this one) cannot read.

Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the data we hold about you or your family tree at any time by contacting us.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date above. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
